To generate excitement for the America’s Cup Race in 2021 and demonstrate the potential of 5G, Spark brought together the convergence of sailing and technology by building the Spark 5G Race Zone, an interactive experience that gives New Zealanders the opportunity to feel, create, learn and even smell all things sailing – without getting on the water.
Dubbed ‘Innovation Disneyland’, Spark 5G Race Zone is a world-class consumer technology experience that demonstrates how Spark’s 5G technology is powering Emirates Team New Zealand, inspiring Kiwis through the amazing ways that Spark is enabling the future with 5G, while shifting the dial in terms of public understanding of the potential of 5G technology.
Opening as a free event in September 2020, Spark 5G Race Zone has been a hit with families, technology gurus, sailing fanatics and everyone in between. Spark enlisted Anthem to attract nationwide media interest and generate public excitement at launch.
Spark and Anthem developed a robust media programme to create a media and communications blitz in the first 48 hours of launch to cement Spark 5G Race Zone as a premier destination for consumers. We worked alongside Spark and ETNZ to facilitate and manage the hosting of top tier media targets at an exclusive media launch day, allowing media to have the first glimpse of Race Zone and interview key Spark and ETNZ spokespeople amongst the action.
With TVNZ’s Breakfast breaking the story with live crosses on the day of the media launch, attendees also produced coverage in One News, Newshub, Stuff, NZ Herald, Business Desk, Concrete Playground, Heart of the City, Tots to Teens, Sail World and various sailing media titles in New Zealand and internationally. The earned media coverage contributed to Spark 5G Race Zone being 90-95% booked for the Term 3 school holidays.
