With an impressive background which includes a political career, leading an industry association and strategic involvement in various NGOs, Katherine’s knowledge and expertise encompasses: understanding of the public sector and machinery of government; performing under pressure and public scrutiny, particularly during industry crises; media experience and communication on contentious issues; evidence-based decision-making; governance and leadership; public advocacy and strategy. She has strong connections across Parliament.
As Chief Executive for the New Zealand Food & Grocery Council for thirteen years, Katherine led the peak body for fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) providing foods locally and globally. She advocated for members dealing with supermarkets on regulatory and all public issues and oversaw a 10-year campaign for regulatory change within the market duopoly, dealing with all parties in Parliament to garner support and action. She worked with government departments including MBIE, MPI, Fisheries, Environment, Commerce Commission and other departments on a wide range of issues from consultations, complaints and industry advice.
